“Ready?”

Usiku voice sounded clear and happy in this beautiful day. He was on all four, tense and ready to jump, but still mindful of the precious little being standing uneasy between his shoulder blades.

It’s been three months. Three months that they were ‘on the run’ as Mirane was saying. Needless to say those weren’t the calmest month of his life, but Usiku wasn’t complaining at all. It was really better that way.
They had so much fun that he would never complain, and even if he knew that she would leave him one day to try to return with the Miwpin, he keep thinking that this was far in the future. After all she had been chased away after the attack, so right now  he didn’t though she would be any grateful about seeing her own race.

He was taken out of his though when he felt the girl grasp what was surely for her a handful of his dark blue hairs before giving him a soft kick.

That was all he needed, and with one mighty jump they were air born.

Mirane couldn’t stop the scream from escaping her lips. He had ascended, almost totally vertically, extremely fast, and now they were flying through cloud so thick she couldn’t even see him.
Tightening her grasp on the strand of hairs she clung from dear life. Well not really, but even after he told her about her ‘invincibility’ She still had a hard time believing it. Sure she survived a lot of thing, but she had never yet tried to jump off something as high as a mountain or anything remotely life threatening, so how could he be so sure?
Her eyes drifted to her feet, where she felt the smooth and tiny scale moving under her skin with each flap of his gigantic wings.

Then suddenly, they pierced above the white cottony sea. The sunlight blinded her a few second. Then her eyes adjusted, and she was able to look at the fabulous scenery.

Below them, way down below them, the landscape was stretching with every possible tone of green the deep emerald of the nearest forest contrasting with the bright grass of the fields.
In the distance you could see the purplish grey of the Royal City and its toxic fume. And on their left some way ahead, the seemingly endless blue of the ocean.

Mirane relaxed her grip slightly, now that her giant friend was just drifting among the cloud.
It really was fabulous, and she understood why he was so insistent about having her coming. The practical of it being much faster aside, it was too pretty to miss.

“So? What do you think?” Usiku didn’t turn, but he would have given a lot of thing to see the look on his little friend face.
From the sound of it, she was speechless.

“It’s…” Her voice reached his ears in a mere whisper. “It’s marvelous. No I understand why you missed it so much.”

He chuckled. Once you were used to it, it wasn’t so much the scenery, but the feeling of pure freedom that you came to miss if you were grounded.

“Glad you like it. So Little Missy, Where to?”

“Well… I always dreamed of seeing the sea…”

Usiku smiled and turned smoothly, so as not to send his tiny rider flying. Not that he was worried that he couldn’t catch her, but he felt that it would not do any good for any future flight.

As his weight shifted to take in the change of direction he felt the little feet of Mirane moving, surely because she was trying to keep her balance, and it tickled a bit. He chuckled again.

“What’s so funny?”

“Nothing.” He grinned. He really liked when she touched him like this. No matter how hard he tried it, it was sometimes too hard to never see her as a tiny and cute pet that he had to keep safe. And even more when she touched him like this.
Beside he knew she felt the same way, when she was petting him. But like always, by respect (or fear, he was sure that she was still a bit afraid of him.) they avoided saying anything about it.

Keeping his wings open all the way he caught a flow of warm air that carried him peacefully.
But after some more time of this calm and monotone pace, the blue Scaler was bored, and he wanted more. Now the question was, would Mirane agree? Well he would ask and see.

“Say, Mirane, you’d mind if I pulled off some stunt?”

“Like what?”

“Oh nothing too biggie, just some dive. Free fall you know…”

He felt her fidget a bit, no doubt weighting the pro and against, then with a sight she agreed.
He tensed once again. A dive from this height would be perfectly safe, but she didn’t need to know that right?

“Then hold tight, this is going to be dangerous...”

Knowing the big brute as she did now, Mirane was able to detect the faint amusement in the warning, and to deduce that he just wanted to impress her. None less, she wasn’t really keen in falling off in the middle of a dive, so she caught another strand of hair with her free hand, and she steadied herself.

She barely had any time to think about it when she felt the scaly skin stretch a bit, and then they were falling.
This time Mirane forced herself to keep her eyes open. And so she saw the ground coming to meet them at a terrifying speed, but curiously she wasn’t that much scared. She thought it had to do with the fact that Usiku was laughing his head off.

Then before they reached the top of the giant tree that sometimes pierced the forest, more or less, even top, Usiku braced both of his wings and with mighty flapping, he brought them both above the cloud.

Only to plunge again bare seconds later.

The third dive he did, Mirane dared to let go one of the strand and with one hand raised high above her head, she let her voice mix with the one of the joyous Scaler.

Bathed by the sun, they aimed for the shore that could now be seen, right under them, and together they plunged toward it, the wind whipping them, and their laugh mixing with the sound of the air around them.

And as they landed a short way from the beach, her slightly out of breath and disheveled and him grinning like a mad man, she thought. Who would have thought that one day I would get to ride a Scaler…? Life is crazy. But I like it.

Then she jumped to the ground, using his arm as a platform to shorten the fall and they made their way toward the sound of the crashing waves.

Well since I started re-writing, I might as well also start re-type those...
For those of you out there who were interested in Usi' and Mirane ventures...
